Match Report: Barcelona 3-0 Athletic Bilbao

Barca have started the season with a blast, winning the Spanish Supercup at home on an aggregate of 5-1. And what a match the boys played last night! It was absolutely brilliant.

Even though the first half was goal-less, it was jam-packed full of potential scoring opportunities. Ibrahimovic is getting accustomed to our playing style and he's fitting in great, and his shots are just amazing! He works incredibly well with Messi, and plays unselfishly, passing the ball and setting up others for the goal in places where his predecessor Eto'o would have taken the shot. He still needs to work on his positioning, but he's getting there. Ibra will work out just fine on Barca.

Passing seemed to be a little off last night, but the boys were generally playing very well, individually and with one another. And they got their break in the second half, when all the lost chances were accounted for with goal after goal...

Messi opened up the scoring with one of the most brilliant and incredible goals this side of the equator. A beautiful Xavi-to-Ibra found him near the area, and he raced forward before shooting the ball from the impossible-to-score-from position at the right of the goal, and we still can't understand how it found its way in. It's physically impossible, but somehow Leo made that ball swerve over and sail right into the left corner of the goal, just amazing.

The next goal wasn't long after, when a squabble in the area ended with Ibrahimovic landing the ball in the net while Dani got fouled in the area. Ibra's shot was waved for a penalty, and Messi stepped up and tucked it in for his and Barca's second goal of the night.

Pep made his substitutions and Ibra was taken off for Bojan, who scored within two minutes of stepping on the pitch. He intercepted a badly made back-pass from Athletic and from there, it was only a matter of walking towards the empty goal and nudging the ball in; the cutest of goals from the cutest of players.

The final minutes spent themselves and the match ended at 3-0 for Barca, and the team was crowned with the Spanish supercup. Our first piece of silver, this trophy marks the perfect kickoff to what is sure to be another spectacular season, as Barca aims for everything once again.
