Match Report: Barcelona 2-1 Athletic Bilbao

How cute were Xavi and Pedro last night? Barca was one down, the attack was as scanty as the possession, shots were off with Xavi in particular screwing up a hell of a chance, and we're still trying to figure out how he could have missed that - but then Pedro sets him up for a a hell of a goal, and things are looking a bit brighter.

And of course, it had to be Xavi who set up Pedro for the second goal. Again, these two were too awesome together, seeing them like just makes us squeal in uncontrollable delight.

Pedro was just incredible, in everything he did, and we'll say it again: Messi being away or injured won't take too much of a toll on Barca, not as long as we have Pedro.

He shone like a light through a storm last night, the rest of the team being sort of mediocre. And what was up with Dani? He was falling over with every few steps last night, and while Athletic weren't skimping on the fouls, we have to admit that Dani was taking too many dives, narrowly escaping a booking.
.
We were annoyed by the short plays towards the end of the match, pass-pass-out or pass-pass-foul, the ball wouldn't stay rolling for more than half a minute. And our players really have to work on winning over one-on-ones.

We want to stop at Victor Valdes though - how great was he? The saves he made, particularly in the first half, were amazing and we're not blaming him for the conceded goal - the defense should have had that one covered. Some might critisize him, but we feel safe with Vic gaurding Barca's goal.

As a final note: This match was not an easy one going in, and coming out, we're very pleased with the result. We play the next leg at home with a more complete sqaud and with this lead, it looks like the Supercup is in the bag.
