Yeesh, we're away for a bit and what's happened? Barca has gone through so much in these four days, from winning awards and cups to new signings, and we're frantically catching up with it all... first off, we tackle the UEFA realated:
- You have to be proud of Messi and Xavi, who were named best striker and best midfielder, respectively, of the 2009 UCL. Congrats to them! Their winning really was inevitable though; we can't think how anyone would have expected otherwise. And how cute is Xavi in that suit? We're still rolling over how little he and Messi look, sandwiched in between the comparatively giant Edwin Van Der Sar and John Terry, who went home with the awards for best keeper and best defender. Congrats to them too; although we're really feeling that our Vic should have been named best keeper, especially with the way Edwin played in the final... but what's done is done, can't be helped, so best not mope about it.
- As Champions League winners, Barca faced UEFA Cup champs Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Supercup last night, and came out victorious with a late goal from Pedro in overtime securing the win after a long and tedious match. We're sure that the Blaugrana world is ecstatic over the win, we know we are; match report will be coming up soon.
- Moving on to this season's Champions League, well what do you know, the groups have been drawn! And we really can't believe that Barca turned up in the same group as Inter Milan. It's incredible that we'll be facing them so soon, after the historic striker-switch between the two teams; looks like Ibra and Eto'o will be facing each other and their old teams in the ultimate test. Eto'o seems to be quite happy with this; in any case, these are sure to be a hell of a couple of matches! The other two teams also drawn with us in Group F are Dynamo Kyiv (Ukraine) and Rubin Kazan (Russia).
