Match Report: Barcelona 3-3 Villareal

We’re a bit miffed that the lads came off with such a draw, thus postponing Barca’s La Liga victory, but in the end, it’s only putting off the inevitable. A win or draw in the next match will secure the title for us, for the nineteenth time in Barcelona’s history; there’s not a chance we won’t claim it.

However, we’re bothered that even with a lineup full of starters, the win did not come. Pep fielded stars instead of subs looking to clinch the title so that concentration could then be turned to the coming finals; but things didn’t work out as he’d calculated, and we still have the Liga to take care of, apart from the Copa del Rey and CL final. The worst part is, the Copa final comes on Wednesday, just three days following this match, and the team must travel, and that’s after they were looking pretty tired against Villareal.

But the greatest blow is that our love Andres Iniesta picked up an injury in the match, meaning he won’t make the Copa match, and maybe not even the the CL final. We’re absolutely torn up about that, but we just hope he’ll be able to make Rome!

So yes, we are worried about the Copa del Rey final, but now, let’s move on back to this match. At first, things were looking great. Barca score the opener, an amazing shot from Seydou Keita that put us in the lead, and not even Villareal’s equalizer soon after could stump us. True, that equalizer could have stopped, but Eto’I soon scored our second and Dani followed it up, so we weren’t really worrying.

But then, Abidal goes and commits this foul right in the area that earns him his second consecutive red card and a penalty for Villareal. They score, we’re ten men down, and suddenly, things aren’t looking so nice anymore.

Then, we’re just counting minutes till the match is over, and we can celebrate, and watch the boys celebrate; and in the loss time Villareal goes and gets in an equalizer. Frustrating. Horrid. Impossible. We hear you.

But fret not. Even though we’re sure that Madrid are probably taking hope from this, we know better. It’s perfectly impossible that Barca will lose their next three matches; we’ll be Liga champs by next weekend. So let’s take comfort in the fact that Dani’s looking okay after such a disgracing performance against Chelsea, and that he and Puyol both hiked their shirts up, and shift our focus to the Copa del Rey now, shall we?
