Barca Buzz: Liga Champions!

We're so overjoyed, we're coming close to tears here. Barca are La Liga Champions for the first time since 2006! It's bigger than winning the Copa Del Rey, it's such a huge acheivment and we're exceedingly proud of the team, every part of it, from players to staff to even the ball boys...

Not just because the Liga is won, but also because the team won it so greatly, with three matches and nine points to spare.

Real Madrid's 3-2 loss to Villareal last night meant game over; as the final whistle was blown, Barca were instant champions. Blaugrana fans spilled out onto the streets in central Barcelona to celebrate the team's triumph, and it just went on and on... it's been going on, to an extent, for two weeks now actually.
.
The fans were out partying on the streets when Barca beat Madrid 6-2, then again a few days later after the team beat Chelsea and qualified to the Champions League final, and another time shortly afterwards when Barca won the Copa Del Rey. Two days after that, the celebrating continues as Barca just keep going, claiming title after title... that's two out of three now, and all focus turns to the final in Roma as Barca look to complete their treble.

This also means that for the remaining three Liga matches, Pep will be playing substitutes and B-team players as the starters rest up for the decisive final against Man United. The youngsters on Barca B were all following the Madrid match last night, knowing that a defeat for Los Merengues would mean possible call-ups for them, and that's just what happened. Puyol, Pique, Xavi, Busquets, Toure and Messi have all been dropped out of the squad list for tomorrow's game against Mallorca, and youngsters Oier, Fontas, Abraham, Thiago, Jeffren and Xavi Torres have all been added.

Pep and the rest of the players had been of course following the match from their homes, and text messages were sent back and forth between them as they celebrated privately. Pep has insisted that the team's official celebration be postponed till next Saturday, after playing against Osasuna, to keep the players focused right now.

As the Liga draws to an end, Samuel Eto'o is looking to claim the Pichichi (top scorer) with 28 goals so far. Atletico Madrid's Diego Forlan is behind him with 27, and the club has announced that Samu will continue playing in the Liga despite the fact that the title is secured, so that he will be named Pichichi.

It's all but sure, as well, that Victor Valdes will be named Zamora (keeper with least goals conceded) as his average is 0.89 goals conceded per match. Behind him is Sevilla's Palop with 1.06, not too near to our Vic. The club had previously claimed that Vic will not continue to play after the Liga is secured, seeing as he's already on top and should be rested for Roma, however this could change in light of the recent injuries of our other two keepers, Pinto (twisted ankle) and Jorquera (broken thumb).
