We’ve become used to it: whenever he scores a goal, Henry kisses his right wrist. The reason why he does that has been a complete mystery, but now, finally, we’ve discovered the secret.
Everything comes clear in the article recently published on Sport. Thierry’s gotten a tattoo there on his wrist, which is supposed to be the secret to his success, and that’s why he kisses it when he scores.
Titi’s not the first to get one, either. The artist, Luis Tattoo, has put his “good luck charms” on a lot of stars, many of which include Barca players: Figo, Luis Enrique, Rijkaard, Puyol, Marquez, Bojan, Fabregas… apparently Puyol has three such tattoos, and he’s the one who recommended them to each of Bojan and Fabregas.
According to the artist, this tattoo “helps them reinforce their physical strength, to remember who they are; that if they've been able to reach this point, they can get even further, all they have to do is make an effort. These protections reaffirm them, they help them return to believing in themselves. If you are the best, then why not be the best again?"
But let’s cut to the chase here—is it just a superstition, or are these tattoos really effective? They seem to have worked for a number of the players mentioned. Shortly after Puyol got his, he won the Liga with Barca for the first time. Rijkaard’s tattoo was followed with Barca’s Champions League victory in 2006. And Henry? In the first game after getting his own tattoo, he scored the second goal for Barca in the thirteenth minute in what ended up as a 5-0 win against Almeria. And yeah, his form has been noticeably better lately.
And there you have it—now we understand Titi’s unique goal celebration. And if this tattoo really is the secret behind his success, then we’re off to round up all the rest of the players to get their own tattoos as well.
