Match Report: Barcelona 4-0 Bayern Munich

Knockout competitions can be very tough, especially when we’re playing the return leg away, but after this match Barca is as good as qualified.

The team barely scraped past Valladolid with a single goal just a few days before, but the quarter final of the Champions League was much different. The boys were on fire from the very beginning of the match, and the opening goal almost came in just the third minute from an incredible chance for Henry, but it wasn’t meant to be. Minutes later however, Messi scored the incredible opener, and soon followed it up with another, with Samu and Titi also getting their names on the scoresheet.
.
Barca came off with four goals to none but there ought to have been one more. Leo Messi is always tripped a lot during matches, and this one was no exception, and when he was taken down in the area, it should have been a penalty for Barca. However, the referee for this match is perhaps the daftest of all the annoying refs we’ve had to put up with this season; not only did he refuse to grant the penalty, but he actually went so far as to book Messi for supposed diving. Say what you will, that’s taking it just a bit too far.

And of course Pep wouldn’t stand for it—he flat out lost it and strode onto the pitch, yelling and protesting at the idiot ref, and what does the jerk go and do? Send our coach off the pitch! First it’s booking players while they’re still on the bench, then it’s sending off coaches… what will these referees come up with next? It’s just ludicrous.

But when all’s said and done, 4-0 is a beautiful score and a wondrous achievement in itself, when you’re up against the likes of Bayern Munich and in the finals of such a competition as the Champions League.

We’re more upset that Rafa got booked and will have to miss the next leg over in Germany. It’s not the defense we’re worried about—what with Puyol back from injury and Abidal on his way, not to mention Pique’s amazing performance of late, the backline should be perfectly fine. The distressing bit is having to go the full match without Rafa’s prevalent gorgeousness on the pitch...
