Transfer Talk: Barca's Summer Market

As soon as the season finishes, all attention is automatically turned to transfers, and about a dozen new rumors and reports arise every day. Barca’s been linked to just about every footballer under the sun, we couldn’t keep up with them if we tried. The most talk, however, has been in relation to Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahomovic, and the possibility of his coming to Barca; there’s also been a lost of buzz around the possibility of Eto’o being sold and Bojan leaving on loan.

Personally, we choose not to believe anything until it’s confirmed by the club. And the club has, as of yet, confirmed only one thing: that Sylvinho will be leaving. So we bid him farewell and good luck!

Barca’s sports director Txiki Begiristain has also announced that he’s looking into renewing the contracts of several players, namely Puyol, Iniesta, Valdes, and Yaya.

Valdes is the most urgent case, while the club wish to improve Yaya’s contract seeing as he’s the worst paid player on the team. They also want to offer Iniesta a better deal in light of his fantastic performance, and, as Txiki says, to protect him from Real Madrid.

Eto’o’s contract is also close to expiring, however nothing will be done about that until it’s decided whether or not he’ll be leaving the club. Txiki mentioned Messi as well, but also added that the case of his contract is not as urgent.

As for the signings Barca will make, they will have to be modest ones as sources reveal that Pep and Txiki have just a little over thirty million euros to spend on the transfer market. Money gained from player sales will be added to that amount, but in the end, after having invested a lot in rebuilding the squad last summer, Barca won’t be signing as many players this time.
